The Ride

I feel the powerful beast under me

A being with a mind of his own, yet he yields to my every whim

Rippling muscles bulge with every stride

Soon, we are moving as one

Scents of sweat and leather swirl as we break into the wind

Squeezing my thighs to urge him he begins to move faster

I pound my heels into his sides then I Give him the reins

He begins to huff and groan as he labors

Faster and faster he moves lengthening his neck as he races to finish

We cross the line and my energy drops giving him the cue that his work is done

I feel his heart pounding and his breathing is labored as the ride comes to an end

Both of us are exhilarated as we tremble from the adrenaline rushing through our veins

Later I will lovingly groom him as he eats his evening meal

Looking into his eyes, I realize he is my only love and I am grateful for him

The horse and his rider, companions for as long as his will to carry me
