Tend Your Garden

Relationships last not because we want them to,
But because two people were willing to fight to make it last.
They know that love is like a garden that needs tending.
Weeds will grow and need to be pulled
It needs fresh water to keep it alive and vibrant.
Fertilizer to nourish it and make it lush.
Rodents will dig and try to feed on its roots.
And vermin will break down through the defenses and eat from the foliage.
Love gardens will attract insects that seek to destroy it
It will take two gardeners working hard to till and guard it to keep the vermin at bay.
If one gardener gives up, it becomes too much for the one left and the garden will fall into disarray and wilt.
But if they both stick it out, work, and fight for the garden, they will reap a good harvest and they’ll be fed well.
So take your queue from this poem and work for your love.
Fight the vermin with all you've got.
