A Rare Heart

Through your words and your strength you showed me,
That there are people who care even when they don’t know you at all,
That even though I still love the one I lost it’s okay to move on,
That no matter how many times I fail I need to get up and try again,
That I am tougher than I think and that I can be happy again,
That even if I can’t forget past trauma I can go around it and not let it have power over me.
You showed me that sometimes people besides me need time to be alone and reset.
It does not mean they don’t care, they just need to care for themselves.
You sent me love and kind words even on days when you had crap of your own to deal with.
But you saw me struggle and loved me through it and you had no idea if I was even a good enough person to deserve it.
Not many on earth have the ability.
How many would have the courage to share it if they did?
You are the one I needed when I was down.
You are the one God sent me.
The one with the Rare Heart.

Todays thoughts:
Unlike most of the work you read here, this is a recently written poem. Not long ago, I went through some very hard times. Most days were filled with tears and loneliness like I had never before experienced and God must have heard my heart breaking. Because he sent me the most wonderful human to care for me. My friend appeared out of the blue and had never met me or even seen me in person. Not even knowing if I was even deserving of it, love was freely given and nothing was asked in return. What would have probably been the longest time of my life went by in what seemed like only weeks. I was given things I could never buy with even the worlds portion of gold. To this day, we have never met in person and I am thinking we probably never will. But, maybe one day, I will be given the chance to love someone in the same way and my hope is that, through the love I was given, I will have learned to have as rare a heart as that.
